Big Brothers, Hot Girls and Lemonade Stands

Hi Everyone!
I want to thank each of you who have taken the time to visit my blog these past few days and make comments on my son, Garrett’s posts. He had such a good time writing the blog and felt so good when everyone wrote in and complimented him! When I told him about the buzz up votes that he got on his posts (and how usually not many actually click the vote for the posts) he was ecstatic!
I have to tell you that over these past couple of days I have been overwhelmed with work and I was glad that Garrett was willing to pitch in and write for me.
On Sunday I got a large job that needs 100 articles-650 words each and on top of that, this is our last week to finalize and submit our grant to NIH in hopes to get some funding to help with our July conference in Cincinnati. So, on top of my usual busy world, this week is exceptionally busy and honestly I am not anywhere through with any of it!
The posts that Garrett wrote were completely his idea and I didn’t change anything in them at all. When I sat down to read the one he wrote about his brother Tim, I cried my eyes out! He watched me as I read it and was gracious enough to not mention my tears, but he is used to me crying when something touches me so deeply.
It makes me extremely proud to know that he feels so strongly about his big brother and his ending line about talking with your own brother totally did me in.
It never ceases to amaze me when my boys, any of them, totally “get it” when it seems as though so many just are so busy in their own lives to take the time to stop and appreciate the little details-the small things-in their lives that are really the most important.
I have to add my disclaimer here, and I know as parents you all will appreciate the fact that I did not edit Garrett’s blogs and made sure that these were his own words. Please know that I cringed when he wrote about dancing with “Hot Girls” and how he didn’t care if they were “hot” or not! LOL
I know that he meant that in all sincerity and perhaps to some people that may have came out wrong. What he was trying to say… for those who may not have understood…was that it didn’t matter to him what a person looked like or even if they had Down syndrome or mosaic Down syndrome, he sees the true inside heart of a person and he knows that that is all that matters! (although I am sure that if you are a “hot girl” it is a big plus on your part
)
At the top of my blog you see a Lemonade Stand. Some of you may have read the comments on Garrett’s blog yesterday about the conference and how he is so excited about it.
Beth Rose of the Wearer of Many Hats blog awarded my blog with this special Lemonade Award! Beth said that she chose my blog and nine others “because you have obviously been dedicating this to the benefit of others. I chose you because of your unselfish attitude and the fact that you share the responsibilities of your writing with your kid!”
I think this is extremely cool and Garrett and I are both very humbled that someone who has never before been to my blog would find it worthy enough to give us this award.
It isn’t a “hot girl”, it isn’t 100 completed articles of 650 words each, and it isn’t an NIH grant. It is more about the little details-the small things-like virtual lemonade stands and someone who says “You matter” and “I see you making a difference”…. that is what life is all about…..
