Mystery Diagnosis: mosaic translocation Down syndrome

This past week, the Discovery Health program Mystery Diagnosis was working hard in filming for an upcoming segment on their show.

Mosaic Down syndrome can sometimes be a Mystery Diagnosis because many go years without the diagnosis and unfortunately in some cases they are diagnosed when a serious health problem occurs. So, when they were doing their casting call I had alerted our members at IMDSA about the show.

Hannah Hannum had a very interesting story and it was interesting enough for Mystery Diagnosis to give them a call.

I wrote about Hannah last month during my 31 for 21 series. You can read her story here.

Now, here is an even more interesting twist in this story. Usually, when Mystery Diagnosis comes out to do a show on a child, they have to find someone who can play the part of a younger version of this child. In most cases, they invite siblings or cousins to play this role because they are easily accessable and possibly they children have the same facial features. However, Hannah didn’t have anyone in her family to play this role. So, Hannah’s mom, Holly called another one of IMDSA’s members who happens to live in the same area.

Sue Johnson’s daughter, Isabella will be 2 yrs old next month. Isabella has mosaic Down syndrome and XXX syndrome. Isabella is a real cutie and was perfect for the role of younger Hannah. So, Isabella is playing the younger role of Hannah during this segment.

this is an older picture I have of Isabella. I really need to update my pictures!

The show will air in March and we will be sure to let everyone know about it when we get the schedule! We are really excited to get this message out and hope that with it, more people will be diagnosed with mosaic Down syndrome before a health concern arises.
