Russell Brand went too far when hosting MTV Music Video Awards

I don’t watch MTV. I am probably too old. I remember when MTV first came out. I didn’t really care for it then either. However, I know that hundreds of thousands do watch the channel on a regular basis. And, the majority of those who watch it, are young, impressionable teens who are at a stage of mimicking most of what they see.

When Russell Brand, the British stand-up comic, TV show host and radio DJ hosted the 25th anniversary MTV Music Video Awards he not only insulted many American’s he also insulted ONE BILLION FIVE HUNDRED TWENTY MILLION people in the world with his snide comments during the Sunday night MVA’s.

Early in his opening monologue, Brand pleaded: “Please, America, elect Barack Obama. On behalf of the world.” Then Brand referred to President Bush as “that retarded cowboy fellow.”

Brand is well-known in Britain for his outlandish and hedonistic figure who speaks unabashedly about his prior drug and sex addictions.

Throughout Brand’s monologue, he poked fun at young sex and abstinence. Speaking of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s daughter’s boyfriend and would-be father, Levi Johnston, Brand sympathized with him: “That is the safe sex message of all time. Use a condom or become a Republican!”

In continuing with his insults, Brand stated “A bit of sex occasionally never hurt anybody.”

Brand’s comments on the “r” word and on teenage sex is very alarming. With the main audience of MTV being teenagers and young 20’s this message sends an “OK” to use the “r” word as well as have sex out of wedlock.

The damage is already done, because you can’t take words back, however it is important now for MTV to make amends.

International Mosaic Down Syndrome Association will be calling on MTV today to help their impressionable viewers understand why using the “r” word is inappropriate.

As a parent of a pre-teen and young adults, I personally will be calling on MTV to make amends on the damage done regarding the words said on teenage sex. In my opinion, it is vital to educate teens and young adults on the dangers of pre-marital sex. It isn’t that I believe that all teens and young adults will practice abstinence, but when an adult comes on television and says all of this is ok it sends the wrong message to these young people.
