Sarah Palin: you will have a friend and advocate in the White House

I have never been near enough involved to listen intently to pre-election proceedings. I never even knew that they had these conventions on television with speeches and that this is the time they accept their nominations.

For some, that may sound horrible! I should know everything there is to know about politics. It is, after all, my duty as an American citizen to follow closely all the election proceedings and know all the information there is to know about each candidate. After all, many of those outside of the United States do not have that freedom to vote.

I vote. I just don’t follow every single word spoken from each candidate. It is probably my ADHD that gets in the way. I have the attention span of a flea!

However, this election has caught my eye from the very beginning and now, with Sarah Palin in the mix, I have to smile when I realize that history in so many forms is being made this year. And, I know that no matter who is elected as president of the United States, the country and perhaps the world will be changed after this election.

Views will be different.

Families will hug their children a little tighter.

Neighbors will stop and say hello.

Kids will be taught to respect their peers with differences.

Schools will realize that children are children—-not dividends.

Teachers will realize that their students ARE TEACHABLE.

Employers will actually follow through with their “Equal Opportunity Employer” promise.

Services for those with special needs will realize that these are people and not numbers.

Doctors will no longer pretend to have a magical crystal ball that gives them a definitive answer on a child’s future.

It wont happen over night, but it will happen!

Last night I watched Sarah Palin as she delivered her speech. Throughout the speech she told some of the plans that she and John McCain have for the country. She told a little about her life, so that people knew where she came from. And, as she told all these things, she looked out to her audience and her eyes followed accordingly throughout the crowd.

But then, at the one and only moment in her speech, the moment that all the families of children with special needs had been waiting to hear, she spoke directly to each of us sitting in our living rooms as she looked directly into the camera. She knew, that we were watching and waiting. She knew that we needed to hear it directly from her lips. She knew the struggles that we were facing. She knew it because God gave her baby Trig back in April who was born with Down syndrome.

The simple words that everyone was hoping to hear……

“To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.”

Thank you Sarah! You have already begun making a difference just by saying no to the majority who think your precious baby shouldn’t be here!
