I received a message from ADA about Talk Radio Network’s Michael Savage and the more I read the more upset I became! My mother always taught me that if you didn’t have anything nice to say, you shouldn’t say anything at all. This was her mantra, and obviously, for me, it sunk in….deep.

It is beyond me why someone would say such hateful things to someone with a disability. But as the press release states, this guy is a bully! And bullies get their strength by picking on the weakest ones.

I have to wonder what happened in this man’s childhood to make him want to be such a bully. I wonder if his parents are proud of him? I wonder if he has parents? Mostly, I wonder if he ever actually tried to get to know someone with a disability and see that they are just people like everyone else!–The answer to the last question is an obvious “No”.

What is more shocking than this? Every day when I am online and I stumble across something somewhere that has something to do with Down syndrome, I find that people say horrible, mean things about these individuals that they don’t even know!

So, this is the press release, and my comments because….really, I just can’t resist!

“Talk Radio Network Should Fire Michael Savage,” Says Disability Rights Coalition

Hate Speech Unacceptable as 18^th Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act Nears

The leader of a national coalition of disability, civil rights and social justice organizations called on Talk Radio Network to fire talk radio host, Michael Savage for his hateful attacks on children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. Jim Ward, founder and president of ADA Watch and the National Coalition for Disability Rights (NCDR), stated:

“ADA Watch/NCDR calls on Talk Radio Network to fire Michael Savage. As America prepares to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act(ADA) on July 26th, people with disabilities, parents, family members, friends and advocates across the nation are outraged over Savage’s latest attack on people with disabilities. His despicable assault on children with autism – calling them “frauds” and “brats” – is rightly being condemned as hateful and bigoted. But it is just the latest of Savage’s numerous and painful attempts to demean and disenfranchise people with disabilities.”

“frauds” and “brats”? Oh yeah….. a 5 yr old child can completely fake autism! They are so developmentally advanced that they didn’t even need to do all the research Dustin Hoffman did to play his role in Rainman.

Savage has also used his bully-pulpit to declare that:

• High levels of asthma impacting minority children was because “the children got extra welfare if they were disabled.” (July 2008)

So, does this mean that the kids are faking asthma too? And, by the way, “Mr.” Savage, I don’t think kids get “extra welfare” if they are disabled!

• The “handicapped” workers at the Phoenix Café would “drool” and put dung in diners food. He made up names for the food on the menu, such as “nutburger.” (July 2002)

That just doesn’t even deserve a comment…….

• Members of the disability rights community are the “Wheelchair Mafia.”

I have to wonder….. Is he worried that the “Wheelchair Mafia” will come to get him? Sounds to me like he is feeling threatened by them. Of course, this is where his bullying probably started in the first place. It was probably because he felt threatened by those who were different from him. Come to think of it….. I hope the majority of the world is different from him.

• The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the world’s first civil rights law for people with disabilities, should be called the “Lawyers’ Improvement Act.”

THANK GOD FOR ADA!!!!

• His political opponents are “degenerate slime bags” with “mental disorders” and have a “virus like leukemia.”

I certainly hope that this man never has an accident that leaves him with brain damage and I sincerely hope that he never gets cancer.

• When he was younger, he “touched the hand of a midget [Dwarf],” it really “freaked him out” and, since that episode, he doesn’t like public places. (June 2004)

I can just imagine what this person felt when they had to touch him! Perhaps they don’t like public places now because of Michael Savage!

• The “autism lobby of devastated parents is just a scam to get more money.”

For all the parents who have children with Autism…. please raise your hand if you have received an abundant amount of cash lately since you began this “autism scam”. For some reason I lost that memo on how to get that cash and I would really like to go collect my money!
